Spiritual Harvest…

Harvest
I have heard my friend Sachin recounting tales from his childhood, about Gulbarga, his native village. His grandfather was a very skilled farmer, and “turned the soil into gold”. His tales take me on a ride back to those old-days when there were cows in the cattle-shed for milk, bullocks ploughed the fields, and the whole joint family dined together.

And in one such tales, he would recount the days of harvest when the grains would be ready, and money would flow in. Apart from the grains that were meant for domestic consumption and sale, his grandpa would also plant vegetables in the field, everything that would be required in the kitchen would come from the fields.

Celebration
My readings tell me that this occasion of plenty – the harvest time- has always been celebrated in this Agrarian country with special festivities, when the Celebration of life would join hands with Spiritual fervor in special traditions and customs. Like the Pongal in Tamil Nadu, when the cattle is worshipped… a gratitude for the Cattle and Gods for their blessings; the famous thrissur fair would be held in Kerala; Baisakhi in Punjab when the rural folks will dance to the rhythm of drums.

For a city person, perhaps his harvest time is the day when he gets his monthly income. I, for one, felt the same sense of revelry as I got my monthly income (Interests from Deposit) today.
What is this life if full of Care,
We have no time to stand and stare…”

That was one poem I used to recite as a child.
Working at a Call Center earned me an income 6 times more. However life was one big Storm then. And the money just blew away… And at the end of the month, I had not lived a single rupee.

At last it seems I have got a life. And finally I can appreciate each and every rupee that flows into my wallet. Because I have got the basics right.

Gratitude

In the last two years, my Spirit wanted to get down to the basics, to start from the Scratch. Things that mattered once don’t matter anymore. And things that matter now are things, which I never knew existed.

Happy is the Man who has found his work, a poet wrote. I would rephrase… Happy the Man who found his peace and then his work.

Now I just need to build on this strong foundation. I think I have finally got my basics right. Now it’s a matter of strengthening my foundation and walking ahead.

(I am happy I am meeting my therapist tomorrow. Things such as this subtle joy which pounds in my heart right now, from the new vision of life as I see it, is a gift from her… she guided me to the truths of inner peace and joy. So when I tell Subodh, I finally know Happiness in life… I am sure about it. )
